Plan Report has stated that India aims to increase the GER from the existing 11.5% to 15% which means a multifold increase in the number of higher educational institutions and corresponding Human Resource induction.Considering the present budget allocation for higher education, MHRD cannot meet the demand on its own. Hence the privatization of higherGyan Jyoti College, established in 2005, under the aegis of Vivekananda Academic Foundation, is affiliated to North Bengal University. It is one of the first privately maintained higher educational institutions in Siliguri.The College was started to fulfill the long felt demand for quality higher educational institution in the region and also to accommodate the young talents who otherwise, will have to leave the region in search of admission to higher educational institutions elsewhere.
