Seminar on Gender Studies by prof. Niladri Ranjan Chatterjee.

A Seminar on Gender studies was conducted by the Department of English, Gyan Jyoti College on 5th Feb 2011. Prof. Niladri Ranjan Ghatterjee (Kalyani University), was invited to speak on the subject to the students of the aforesaid department. Students and teachers from all the other departments were also invited to attend it.

The seminar co-ordinator Mr. Soumen Nag was also present on the occasion . Prof Chatterjee spoke about an area to which the students of the third year English (H) have been newly introduced as part of the syllabi. Their response to the lecture was as good as their percentage of attendance on the day. Gender studies is an inter-disciplinary area that has penetrated literary studies and has triggered huge research work.

To conclude the occasion an interactive session was organised, and in which questions were invited from the audience. Pro. Chatterjee, being an enticing speaker, the students demanded to have him here again to speak to them and he himself promised to co-operate in the future.Go Top

 

Seminar on Motivation

A seminar on motivationwas organised onthe 22nd of February 2011 by the Department of management, Gyan Jyoti College, in collaboration with the cultural committee. Our Respected speaker was Mr. Jitendra Mittal who happens to be a chartered accountant, was specially invited to motivate the students to build up their skills in the process of education and to overcome their trepidations of public speaking. He divided the students into groups and set them to perform certain activities good enough to display their potency.

Mr. Mittal made use of visual presentation to draw the attention of students to some territories, previously unexplored. A great speaker as he is, he made thestudets partifipate in certain games, supported by a general discussion.Go Top

The Gyan Jyoti Quiz Contest 201024th Sept, 2010

Gyan Jyoti College had organised a Quiz Contest for +2 students on the 24th of September, 2010 aided by Dainik Jagaran, a local Hindi newspaper, as its media partner Mr Ranvir Kumar, IG North Bengal, has graced the chair of the Chief guest. The programme was also attended by the Chairman, Vice-Chairman and trustee members of Vivekananda Academic Foundation, the parent body of Gyan Jyoti College. The ceremony was inaugurated by our respected Chief Guest and the trustee member.

 An eminent Quiz master Mr. Parnab Mukherjee, basically a media person having traveled the world allover, had flown from Kolkata to conduct the quiz. It was a three and half hour program. Two documentaries filmed on sericulture and child labour was shown during the break. Much admired, as it was, the MCJ department of the college won accolades for it. After a rigorous session of questioning St. Augustine, Kalimpong emerged as the Champion followed by St. Michael, Siliguri and Rockvale Academy, Kalimpong as the 1st and 2nd runners uprespectively. Freshers Welcome 2010: by the College 12th July 2010

The 12th of July 2010, was turning point for many, as it was on this date the 1st year students commenced their journey as college students, in Gyan Jyoti. An important occasion as it was, the vice-chairman Mr. Sujit Kr. Raha didn’t fail to grace the occasion and motivate the students. He was representing the trustee members of the Vivekananda Academic Foundation, the parent body of the college

 The students were ushered to the seminar hall and the teachers of all the disciplines were introduced to them. Individually, of course, the faculties had got them acquainted with the syllabi and the rules and regulations of the college, in the respective classes. Amongst the respected speakers on the occasion were Mr. Sujit Kr. Raha, Vice-Chairman, Prof Jayaraman Suresh, Principal GJC, Prof. Chittaranjan Ghosh Dastidar, Director of Commerce and Mr. Soumen Nag, Academic Co-ordinator.

This ceremony is some unique as probably in no other college where there is a direct interaction of an informal kind takes place between the trustees and the students, providing a good opportunity to speak about their future plans and expectations.Go Top

                                               

 

Foundation Day Ceremony Aug 5,2010

Foundation Day is an important Ceremony in the history of Gyan Jyoti College, since it is on this date, that the college began its journey in 2005, on August 5. Every year this day is celebrated in the college with active participation of the students, teaching and the non-teaching staff.

This year, was no deviation. Having been attended by the chairman Mr. G.S. Hora and Mrs Rabinder Hora (trustee member) and vice chairman Mr. Sujit Raha and trustee member Mr. Surinder Agarwal and Mrs. Agarwal and Mr. Dilip Sarkar (trustee member), the programme organised had, as its chief guests Prof. Anindya Paul (ex-prof, NBU, Geography) and Prof. Haren Ghosh(ex-principal, Siliguri Commerce College). Their speech endorsed the students and motivated them towards academics and extracurricular activities.

 The department of Geography was inaugurated by Prof. Anindya Paul, on this day. The performances given the students- dance, music and recitation, left the guests awestruck by the bounty of talents the college was blessed with. A short program, as it was it only marked the inception of another promising year of success and all-round development of the college.     Go Top

 

A Laudable achievement by Gyanjyotian.

Ms. Chitrani Malakar, a student of BBA 3rd semester of Gyan Jyoti College participated in the inter-collegiate debate competition organized under the auspicious of Indian Association of Parlimentarians on Population and Development and was adjudged the 1st position winner by the panel of judges. She will take part in the All India Competition to be held in Delhi under the patronage of the same organisation.                           Go Top

 

Antarctic Expedition – An Interaction

Ms Reena Kaushal, the first Indian woman to reach the South Pole, visited Gyan Jyoti College on 12th March, 2010 and delivered a lecture on her challenging journey across the daunting landscapes of the Antarctica. She was one of the eight member team from Commonwealth countries who undertook the venture under the banner of “The Kaspersky Lab Commonwealth Antarctic Expedition”. The purpose of the adventure is to create awareness about environment and to demonstrate woman power. The students and the staff actively participated and watched the power point presentation made by Ms. Reena Kaushal.   Go Top

 

EYE DONATION AND AWARENESS PROGRAMME

Siliguri Lions Eye Bank organized a seminar on the importance of Eye Donation to eradicate blindness. Mr. D.K. Agarwal, Chairman, Siliguri Lions Eye Bank spoke on the occasion followed by a short film on the problem. The touchy document made a tremendous impact on the participants.          Go Top
